My Time as a Jag

Image
Hello everyone!! As a freshman, I would have to say I am loving the college experience. While going to school at South, I learned many valuable lessons, one being closed mouths don't get fed. College is not the time to be shy and afraid to speak up. I learned quickly, to ask for help when I needed it and to network with people so that I could succeed. Even though I learned the hard way,  I still feel that South is the best place for me. Being on South's campus has opened many doors for me. For example, I was able to connect with my mentor, Mrs.Jamora who has set up a time for me to shadow a Pharmacist, which is my dream job. I have met some of my best friends here. I have also made tons of memories by going to campus sporting events, Jaguar Production events and just hanging out with my friends. All in all coming to South has been one of the best decisions I have made and with that being said, I wish you future Jags well as you embark your journey at South!

A Piece of Advice

Image
As the spring semester of my freshman year comes to a close, I'd like to reflect on what I should have been doing to enhance my college experience as well as excel academically. I should have definitely been reading my textbook in order to understand what was going on in my science classes. Visiting my professors office hours and going to tutoring is essential as well if you are struggling in a class. Making study groups is EXTREMELY important because trust me..you can't do this alone. I also would have used better time management skills instead of waiting till the last minute to study for a test or write a 5 page paper. Lastly, I should have developed more relationships with my professors. Don't be afraid to visit their office hours or send them emails.  Make them get to know you because you never know where your next internship or job offer will come from. However, I had a blast this year and I hope this advice helps you succeed in the future!

Hello everyone!! This week I'm going to be sharing with you some tips about preparing for college as well as orientation this summer. First, make sure you have all of your shots and medical records are up to date and that you have submitted that information to the Student Health Center before coming to orientation. Second, make sure your major is correct or submit a major change form if it isn't so that you will be in the correct group during orientation. Third, make sure you plan accordingly and book a hotel if you live far away so that checking into a hotel will be easy when you arrive to Mobile. Lastly, make sure to wear comfortable clothing and good walking shoes because you will be outside in the heat for a good bit of the day. Some tips to start preparing for college: 1. Gain and/or touch up on your social skills because college is all about making connections. 2. Develop time management skills because that is essential when balancing school, work and a social lif

Springtime Shenanigans

Image
Hello everyone, as Spring has finally arrived I'd like to share with you my favorite springtime activities. My favorite outdoor place on campus would be the Student Rec Pool. The pool is an awesome place to relax and enjoy time with friends. I've played countless games of volleyball and basketball in the water and it has been a blast. I also find it relaxing to to just lay poolside in the hammocks a read book or binge watch a TV show. My favorite off campus outdoor activity would be going to Langan Park with my friends. It's a nice throwback to the good ole days when you weren't  stressed and all you cared about was recess. It's also very refreshing to take a nice long walk and feel the cool breeze. I highly recommend these springtime activities because they are great stress relievers and lots of fun!

South Serves

Image
Hey y'all!! This week I'm going be sharing how I get involve through community service in the Mobile area. South offers an awesome website called South Serves that allows you to find community services events that fit your interest. For example, if your going into the medical field the website will tailor your search results specifically for community service events within the medical field. I have had the opportunity to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity and the Ronald McDonald House. With the Habitat for Humanity I had to pleasure of helping repair a house for a family in need by, painting the walls and pulling old nails out of the window seal. With the Ronald McDonald House I was given the opportunity to prepare a meal for the families of ill children. All in all these were two awesome experiences and I highly encourage you to get involved within your community to help those in need and to improve your chances of success in your field!

A Glance into my USA Life

Hello everyone! So this past week has been pretty stressful for me. I had two midterms and a paper due in History. However, I still managed to remain sane and even have a little fun with my friends. At the beginning of the week I had the privilege of attending the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs- Soul Food Luncheon. It was an full of entertainment and good food in representation of Black History Month. To the right is a picture of how nicely the Student Center Ballroom was decorated for the event. That night I had to crack open my textbook and begin studying for my Biology midterm. Hopefully, I did pretty good. Towards to end of the week I got to relax a bit and enjoy time with my friends. We watched movies and played hide and seek with our RAs. Overall my college experience has been nothing short of amazing! I'm sure you all will feel same way soon.
